I was privileged to work closely with David when we were both co-Chairs of BBSRC Committee D. He was so knowledgable about the wide range of science that was submitted as well as about BBSRC process. Working with him was a joy, we worked so hard but always had fun. For me this was an administrative role I took as with some trepidation but it turned out to be one of the best things I ever did and a central part of that was being able to work with David.  He is a huge loss to the scientific community as well as a personal loss to me.
